Back Home

Hey Guys,

Sorry about the delays. I decided to drive up (down?) to Georgia for the weekend to visit my friend from high school. It was awesome and basically the best weekend ever but I came back swamped with shit to do and just got through most of it today. I was up till 5am last night doing problem sets and almost missed my 9:00 class to even turn in the damn thing but I managed to get there before class was over.

After a nap and a three hour accounting lecture, I decided to get nxtwrldchamp to sweat me at 2/4 since I haven't played in a week and I've been meaning to get at least one live sweat at 2/4. It seems from our discussion that I was playing well, but somehow amongst my opponents raising every single turn bet I made I lost $2k. Some sample hands from this abominations of a session:

Hero (MP): $377.50
CO: $1469.50
BTN: $490.50
SB: $282.45
BB: $400.90
UTG: $420.50

Pre Flop: ($4.80) Hero is MP with A of hearts K of hearts
1 fold, Hero raises to $7, 2 folds, SB calls $6, BB calls $5

Flop: ($22.80) 8 of hearts 5 of hearts A of spades (3 players)
SB bets $16, BB calls $16, Hero raises to $52, SB requests TIME, SB raises to $275.15 all in, BB folds, Hero calls $223.15

Turn: ($589.10) 7 of spades (2 players - 1 is all in)

River: ($589.10) T of clubs (2 players - 1 is all in)

Hero shows A of hearts K of hearts (a pair of Aces)
SB shows 8 of diamonds A of diamonds (two pair, Aces and Eights)

SB wins $586.10
(Rake: $3.00)

Nothing really to say here, obviously I could flat the flop but given how huge my equity is on the flop and also the fact that SB was a fish who might not stack off on some scary turns makes me think raising is slightly better.

Here i decide to slowplay my aces against a spewy reg but the turn doesn't work out so hot. I'm pretty sure it's still a push given how often ppl bet the king simply because it's a king, and also that nobody ever folds AK and they always play it this way. Meh.

When it came down to it stuff like this is what was hurting me most (and running KK into AA to end the session ldo), I just couldn't pull off a bluff without someone repopping me on the turn.

So...I'm down 5 buyins and this day sucks so what do I do? I go get a sandwich and come back to play another two hours at 1/2. Obviously crushed it. Here goes:

  1. In last hand you bet only 36$ on pot of 88$! Why? Flop is moderately draw....

  2. I think betting as much as $52 or so would be fine, but larger is probably a mistake given how little money is left behind in stacks. Personally I prefer betting cheaper on all flops in 4b pots simply because it presents a lot of good turn spots where ppl only call one street (when I'm bluffing, that is)

  3. aww these are couple of very standard hands... I think I play it almost the same way every hand except maybe I give up the QJs bluff on the turn given I make the same move on flop. I just don't think people fold much when they call flop raises when their IP. Also I think I 4b AA that spot just so I can 4b bluff him in later hands.

Otherwise WP and lots of coolers out there.

  4. ya i agree abt the QJ but i need to 3 barrel sometimes and i just decided to do it this time. The AA thing I can basically play as if its in a vacuum cause its the first time I'm facing his 3bet and he can't see my hand so whatever I'll do what I want screw balance lol.
